I know what you are thinking, that this post is going to be about getting free samples of laundry detergent or body lotion. But it isn’t. My wife pointed out an article to me (in Real Simple magazine) that I thought some people in personal finance land would get a kick out of, so I wanted to post a few of the things that the article said were available for free. Now follow the bouncing ball and let’s see where it goes.
Did you know you can take free classes at MIT? They have a ton of free online classes – nearly it’s entire undergrad and grad curriculum! Want to see what classes you should be taking? Visit MIT.edu.
Interested in taking language classes but don’t have the time or money to sit in a classroom? No worries, the BBC has got you covered.
And now for my favorite one, free classes at the Apple store. Yes, I am one of those annoying Apple-only guys that swears by the computers. But if you have an Apple store near you, you can take tons of free classes ranging from how to use an iPod to how to mix and record music. Just visit Apple.com and find a store near you.
If you like to visit museums but some of them cost too much, most places do in fact have free or reduced price admission days. I know most of them around here in Los Angeles have a few nights every month that are free, so check out the listings of museums near you for freebies you can attend.
Free Information Phone Calls:
This one I already knew about and use when I am not in a hurry to get a number for a company or restaurant that I need. You can call 1-800-FREE-411 and get the exact same listing you would get by dialing 411, but you don’t get charged the $1.50 or more that it can cost. The only catch is that you have to listen to an ad before getting the number, but what’s a few seconds to save $1.50 each time you use it?
Free Ice Cream:
True ice cream fans know that Ben and Jerry’s makes some kick ass ice cream, and every April they have one day where they give away free cones to anyone that wants one! This year it is on April 17th, so be sure to cut out of work early and go get some free ice cream. Just order, eat, walk out, and get back in line. I mean, that is what I heard people did….
The full list is not available online yet, but I am sure once a new issue comes out it will be up there. But these really are some of the good tips on the list. Enjoy your freebies!
