We Made $265 Last Week Selling Stuff On Craigslist.
For those of you that think that there is nothing in your house worth selling to make some extra cash, believe me, there is. In the last week we have made $265 selling random stuff on Craigslist, and every penny of it is going right into our home buying fund. OK it’s not going to buy a house on its own, but its another $265 that we did not have last week. So what did we end up selling?
Office chair -$25
Apple wireless router - $50
17 inch LCD computer monitor - $50
Box of drawer pulls from a project I never even started - $15
Back massager w/heat pads - $10
Magazine storage boxes - $10
Office desk - $50
Old unused cellphone - $5
Next up? Our clothes closets..we are going to dig out everything that we have not worn in the past 6-12 months and sell it all. If there are no buyers, we are just going to donate it all to Goodwill and take the tax write-off. After that, some of my old musical equipment is going to go away, as I stopped trying to be a rock star many years ago when I cut all my hair off. I bet if you look hard enough, in every nook and cranny, you will find something that you can sell to make some extra cash, whether you need it to pay your bills, save for something more important, or take your significant other out for a well deserved dinner. Trust me, the stuff is there…you just aren’t seeing it.

i love craigslist
question: what is the max you can writeoff for donations to avoid audits?

Avoiding writeoffs alone will not cause nor prevent audits. They look at everything. But at this page at the IRS site, you can get a lot more info than I know about!

Great inspiration. I need to do this. I’m long overdue.
Another place to give away stuff that doesn’t sell is through Freecycle.org.
Not sure if you’ve blogged about them yet, but you register and join a local group. It’s done through Yahoo groups. It’s an online exchange group for giving and receiving free stuff. I have a friend who has gotten many great toys for her kids, a used working piano, and a car! (the car needed work, but hey if you know how to fix a car…)

Yea, freecycle is where we put things that just are not worth the hassle of selling. We did however give a bike to a woman that wanted it for her husband when he got back from Iraq, which was nice. I am glad we did not sell that one. Good luck cleaning out the house AgentSully!
