Yeah, that was one of my main factors when searching for a new car. I could have gotten into a better loaded mid-sized car: rims, sunroof, all that good stuff.

I guess some people think of $3.69 as nothing. "Shoot, that's just a couple of bucks", right? But they often forget the "per Gallon" that you need to tack onto that.

Hey, I'm poor and proud of it.

As to who complains, it's going to be the folks with the big cars and cheapskates with small cars like myself. I don't want to pay more for gas, simple.

But there is something to be said for supply and demand. If we had a few less lil' old ladies driving around Ford F250s (Yep, I'm in the great TX) we wouldn't have that problem.

Unless you need a truck, I don't see why you'd ever want to own one. I can think of a total of 3 times in the past 4 years that I've ever needed a truck for anything. I think you can just rent one on those off occasions. Unless of course you have something to haul. But I really hate seeing those big empty trucks with the shiny empty beds.

SUVs: The suburban. Wow, personally it's an eyesore for me. But I know that some people have big families and whatever. What I am against is people who buy these huge SUVs and trucks because "they look cool". There are soooo many other alternatives. But hey, everything's supposed to be bigger in TX right?

When hybrids get more affordable or I win the lottery, I'll get one. Until then I'll have to manage on 31 mpg in my compact.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Although getting into smaller cars and out of the giant SUV's is one thing we need to do, reducing our consumption in general also needs to happen. So even if you can afford it, its not really the wisest thing for us to continue to burn the oil at the rate that we do. Hopefully one day technology will catch up with our needs and free us from oil altogether. Thanks!

I hate paying this much for gas prices although I do know that many countries pay more. I also know that some countries pay less.

Either way we need to fix our fuel dependency. We need to get more dependent on ourselves.

I've vented about this too...

I think the best argument is that the bottled water you see so many people walking around with costs more than gasoline and you don't see people moaning about the price of water...

the data is pretty dated considering it was from 1999. Plus, it doesn't take into account the percentage of cars to public transportation or other transportation modes used in many of those countries.

i don't think people who drive gass guzzlers are necessarily the ones grumbling the most. I grumble and I have a fuel efficient car. then again, i'm a tight arse.

people in the u.s. aren't grumbling too loudly, b/c i still see the vast majority driving alone in their cars to work. i think the media is loudest in advertising the high gas prices. people just aren't concerned about it enough yet. there needs to be a few more years of sustained high gas prices to see the real impact. people obviously have enough money; otherwise, we would be back to the K cars and chrysler horizons that were so popular in the 80's. we aren't there yet.

instead of grumbling about it, just buy more oil company stock.

I mentally grumble about increases in gas prices because I don't really want to pay more. But with that said I know we've got low gas prices compared to the rest of the world and to top that off we've got lots of space and our cites are extremely spread out requiring lots of driving. Heck if we were to include the cost of cleaning up some of the pollution that all of our inefficient cars put into the atmosphere then we'd be paying even more.

The price of gas was one of the main reasons I got a job where I could take transit... now my monthly fill ups don't stress me out as much as th 3 fill ups a week I was doing before.
