We spend about $150-$200/week for a family of three. I kept thinking this was alot, but I simply can't figure out where to cut costs. Fresh produce and meat are very expensive. Any suggestions!?

We live in Los Angeles area. Our family, 2 toddlers, 2 adults and a large dog spend about $1,400 per month. We eat some Organic food and shop at Costco for bulk stuff. This includes diapers, toiletries, cleaning products, stuff you find in groceries stores.

We eat out once a month. We eat healthy and a pretty fut family but after reading what everyone wrote, we may have to go on a diet :-)

My family of 3--two adults, one four-year old, spend 80-85 dollars a week on food/liquor in Boston. And we go out to dinner about twice a month, and I do indulge in a latte now and then. Not too bad, I guess! I just stay away from Whole Foods as much as I can! :)

We spend anywhere between $250 and $400 a month and that's for myself and 4 children, 18, 16, 14 and 12. We do not have a garden, nor any animals for meat, milk, eggs, etc. This is for groceries only and does not include cleaning supplies, paper products, cleaning supplies, etc.

I live on a very tight budget at times and when I do have a little extra I try to stock up on pantry items and things I can get good deals on (loss leaders).

I do shop several different stores as well, in order to take advantage of the different sales in my local area. I do not buy organic very often, though I would love to be able to do that, but unfortunately they higher cost makes it difficult.

I also serve alot of vegetarian meals since beans are so much less expensive that meat and healthier too. I tend to use meat more as a flavor enhancer these days than a main course. We do eat a lot of vegetables, beans, fruit, oatmeal, etc.

I cook the majority of our meals from scratch (at least 95%), and try to always have something easy frozen in the freezer for those nights I just don't feel like cooking.

I find that it is not as difficult as many people think when you eat less meat, and stay away from processed foods, although I really wish I had a garden--that would be great! It is getting harder with the cost of milk goin up and so forth, but I try to stay on top of things and shop those sales ads as aggressively as my budget will allow:-)

My family, party of five (3 sons ages 2-6) spends about $1000/month. I was surpised when I tallied this up recently. I do not think we are excessive, although we do eat sushi twice per month and order out pizza or Chinese every other week or so. My husband and I eat a lot of fish too. I was trying to do some budgeting and $1000/ month was higher than I expected so I just wanted to see what other American middle class families were spending.

For my husband and myself only, we spend about $175 every two weeks, or $350/month. For a long time we budgeted $125 for two weeks or $250/month but ended up running out of food after a week or so and then spent a ridiculous amount of money on eating out. Now I am a "stay-at-homer," so we are eating significantly more at the house rather than buying lunches, dinner, etc. so am thinking of upping it to about $400/month. Once you throw in paper towels, laundry detergent, toilet paper, trash bags, ziplocs, etc, etc... just gets too hard to keep it at $175 for two weeks.

I've budgeted $ 260 a month for two people, but we always go over that amount. We're usually at $ 320 to 350 in reality. This is not only food items, but paper goods, laundry soap, trash bags, bug spray, etc. I'd love to cut that back and stay within budget, but I can't seem to get lower than $ 320 !!!
