Gift shopping is killing me. I don’t know what to buy.

God bless you with the train ride. I thought my 17 hours direct flight is bad. At least you get to see a lot of the country zoom by.

Have fun on the train! I once did that from Delaware to Florida. It helps to have plenty of reading material.

In retrospect, I also did Hamburg to North Italy. But that was mostly overnight and I had a berth–really important.

Thanks for including me in your roundup! I’ll be interested to hear how the train trip goes – I’ve done overnight (leave in the morning, spend the night, arrive next morning) train trips in Europe but never one as long as 40 hours. I would love to take Amtrak cross-country some day, so it’s good you’ll be able to report on the experience! Hope it goes well!
