Yet Another Case Of The Government Wasting Your Money.

A recent article from CNN says that the Government Accountability Office has “lost track” of at least $6 Billion that we have given Pakistan to fight terror. They have no idea where the money went, except for this little gem:

The GAO found that Pakistan received about $3.7 million each year for to operate a fleet of fewer than 20 vehicles for the country’s Navy.

$3.7 million to operate just 20 vehicles? Were they armored personnel carriers or Ford Escapes? Oh right, we probably don’t know that either. We have also paid more than “$200 million for an air defense radar” - but the Taliban and al Qaeda do not have air forces that Pakistan needs defense from. Our government throws money around the world like we grow it inside the White House, while continuing to decimate the finances of our public schools, roads, bridges, fire and police forces, etc - you name it. $6 Billion dollars would go a long way around here…if only we hadn’t lost it in Pakistan. I always feel so much better about paying taxes when I hear stories like this. The best part? No one will be held accountable, just you wait and see. Ah, what a job to have!

  1. “Our government throws money around the world like we grow it inside the White House, while continuing to decimate the finances of our public schools, roads, bridges, fire and police forces, etc” –spot on. It makes absolutely no sense.

Oh I got a kick out of this post. Like you, it really makes me happy to see my dollars being put to good use. I’m sure I wouldn’t have lost them!

  2. I’m sure that the sailors do a fine job, and serve their country with pride and great honour, but the question has to be asked ‘Does the Pakistani Navy have gold plated ships?’.

I strongly suspect that there is a company selling air defence radar that knows someone who knows someone in a very senior position in the department of we have more money that we know what to do with.

On balance, maybe I don’t want to know where the British government has been wasting their money. We’re waiting for the vote by MPs on how much money MPs are allowed to claim as expenses each year. They also vote for their own payrises. Something is definitely wrong there.

  3. This is maddening … infuriating … inexcusable. Perhaps we shouldn’t be out nation building and simultaneously destroying our own nation’s ability to survive.

  4. It’s upsetting the amount of waste there is in the government, this bit is nothing. :)

Plus, everyone knows you don’t grow money, you just print it (or stamp it out).

  5. They are just living up to the name of Government!

Maybe we should have a Carnival of Government money wasting actions. My dear beloved Government would give everyone a run for their money.

  6. Wow! I thought that only happended in Portugal where they spend billions of euros to build High speed train systems just to get to the destination 1/2 hour earlier than it would take a normal train. No to mention nobody’s gonna ever use that high speed train cause it’s gonna be more expensive than if you take the plain!! :-S

  7. El gobierno quiere ayudarte!
