I left my beloved city when I needed a better job market, and when I felt completely shut out of the housing market (which more than tripled in ten years). I still feel sad that it didn't work, but am glad and proud I took a shot at making it work, and still have good friends in my former home. Perhaps I'll go back someday, but I'd really rather move someplace that is less expensive and less overrun by hipsters and yuppies. That could be sour grapes, though!

I made a similar move in my mid-twenties, and stayed for ten years. My least favorite city in the world, after Paris. :) But I thought about it a bit more, and the things surrounding LV are definitely appealing... which means maybe something in the Rockies is my thing.
