Single Step Personal Finance Challenge - Pay Off Remaining Medical Debt.

Yesterday, Mrs. Micah challenged her readers to come up with one single step to take that would improve or optimize our personal finance situation, and since I am both A. a reader of Mrs. Micah and B. a fellow M-Networker, I decided to write up a quick post about what I will be doing to step up to her challenge!

I am going to assemble every unpaid medical bill from my cancer scare and pay them all off in the next 2 weeks. Some of these are on payment plans (no interest, of course) but I don’t care - I just want them out of my life and out of my budget. While there are still bills that pop up now and again from various doctors and tests, the big ones are already billed so there should not be any more big surprises! I am going to contact each doctor/hospital/lab that has been billing me, find out exactly what I owe them, and pay them all off with some cash I had been saving up for the move - that we did not end up spending.

After that, I should only be receiving a trickle of bills every once in a while, which won’t make me feel as burdened. Thanks Mrs. Micah for making me think about coming up with a single step challenge, and make sure you guys try to come up with one little step you can take to improve your financial situation. If you can, please be sure to let Mrs. Micah know about it!

  1. Sounds like a great decision, David. Less headache for the future.

    Thanks for participating! :)

  2. Great step! I participated, also. Got my IRAs in order after job loss and having to do the whole rollover thing. Was a huge headache. Nice to get that pesky item off your to-do list though, isn’t it!? :)

  3. Thanks for the reminder Tiffanie, I need to get my wife’s 401K rolled over. Thanks!
