Although the label "the consumer" is not a new one by any means, and people have often expressed themselves and communicated through consumption, MASS consumption has spiralled over the 20th/21st century to the point of which the individual is often defined solely on their consumption as part of one mass group with little individuality. Consumption has overtaken society to the point where one is constantly bombarded with marketing techniques created following psychological research, to give the most efficient results. You may be a person but, I'm sorry, you will never shake the label of consumer. I understand where you are coming from.
