New Site Announcement – Simple. Organized. Life.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to formally announce a new site I started a few weeks ago called Simple. Organized. Life. I believe the title is self-explanatory, and I will use it to explore that side of my life a little more than I do here.

I am into trying (and still learning) to live a purposeful, simple life, and while I understand it ties in with what I do here at My Two Dollars on occasion, I wanted a place where I could dig a little deeper. I do hope that if you are into that kind of thing, you will come on over, subscribe to the feed, and start leaving comments and getting involved. I look forward to seeing you over there soon!

How Good Is Your 401(k)? Test It Out Against Other Plans.

So, want to see just how good your 401(k) is compared to other plans? Well, you might be in luck as a new service called BrightScope should be able to help you out. Here is what the Huffington Post had to say about this service:

Until now, an objective evaluation of 401(k) plans has been extremely difficult because of the complexity of these plans and the cleverly hidden costs which would take a pension actuary to uncover. These excessive fees have dramatically reduced employees account balances. By some accounts, the combination of poor investment options, high expenses and poor planning have caused many plan participants to have a zero return on their 401(k) investments.

$15,000 Tax Credit For Homebuyers.

Guess it’s time for me to start looking for a house again, huh?

“The Senate voted Wednesday night to give a tax break of up to $15,000 to homebuyers in hopes of revitalizing the housing industry, a victory for Republicans eager to leave their mark on a mammoth economic stimulus bill at the heart of President Barack Obama’s recovery plan. The proposal would allow a tax credit of 10 percent of the value of new or existing residences, up to a $15,000 limit. Current law provides for a $7,500 tax break for the purchase of new homes only. Isakson’s office said the proposal would cost the government an estimated $19 billion.”

Giveaway has ended. Some of you may remember that back in November I gave away a copy of “$1,000 Dollars & An Idea” by Sam Wyly, and My Two Dollars reader Deborah won that copy. Well, lucky for you I found my other copy of the book and I want to give this one away as well! Here is what I said about the book last time:
