Hybrids-It’s Not About The Extra Cost, It’s About Making A Better Choice.

I will be upfront with you; we don’t own a hybrid car. This is mainly because of where we live, which is on a dirt road, surrounded by dirt roads, which get full of foot-deep mud and snow for 4 months out of the year. Were we still living in California, where weather changes amount to which way the single cloud is moving that day, our next car would have been a Prius, for sure. We could have bought an SUV hybrid (which is kind of any oxymoron if you ask me), but we don’t need an SUV and it would have been a waste of money. So instead we bought a Subaru Forester that gets 30MPG, which I am quite happy about. But I digress – let’s talk about hybrids.

GM CEO Steps Down At Request Of White House – I Don’t Buy It.

I cannot believe, at all, that a CEO of a company resigned because the White House asked him to do so. No way, no how. The spinsters in Washington might try to market it this way, but I don’t buy it for a second. If DC was in the business of forcing out CEO’s, why are all the corrupt bankers still redecorating their offices with bailout money? And I don’t believe that Obama all of a sudden wanted to run a car company. (Especially this one) There has got to be something else going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about, as no CEO would resign at the request of the White House. Resign because of the board? Maybe. Shareholders? Maybe. Company about to go belly-up? Maybe. Because he ran the place into the ground? Maybe. But at the request of some guys in D.C.? Nope, not buying it. Here are some snippets from an article in the NY Times talking about what happened yesterday:

Sunday Money Roundup – Catching Pneumonia Edition.

OK, what’s with the weather? 70 degrees one day, snow the next, hail the day after that, and then back to 70 degrees. In my 37 years on this planet, this is some of the weirdest stuff I have ever seen. Whether you think climate change is real or not, this is pretty bizarre stuff! So while I get out my shorts, flip-flops, and snowpants, here are some articles that caught my eye this week…

Money Ning talks about The Impending Retirement Crisis. No worries for me, I plan on never retiring ;-) .

Credit Card Research: Miles by Discover Card.

Since I get emails all the time asking about different credit cards and if people should be signing up for this, that, or the other one, this will be a new feature every week about different credit cards. This week’s card is the Miles by Discover Card, which has a 0% Intro APR that is applied to Purchases and Balance Transfers. Through the reward program, cardholders earn double miles on up to $3,000 in travel and restaurant purchases and one mile for every dollar spent on general purchases. (If you are reading this by RSS, you might have to click through to see all the details)

Money Quote Friday – Journey That Counts Edition.

“If we agree that the bottom line of life is happiness, not success, then it makes perfect sense to say that it is the journey that counts, not reaching the destination.”

- Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

We only go around once; be sure to not miss it while looking for success. Have a great weekend.
