With the state of the economy, these people are probably dying to rent apartments. On a side note, did you know that a lot of major retailers will actually bargain on prices of higher end items? I have gotten things like vacuum cleaners and flat screen TVs for less than the price tag, just because I asked. It never hurts to ask... I paid more than $2000 a month for my apt in CA and I made less than $80K that year, so it can be done. OK, maybe that's true, but housing is expensive. The mortgage for my 1400sqft townhouse is more than $2000/month (bought at the peak of the frenzy, but I never said I could time the market), and believe me, that's a very modest house in my area. You really can't ignore cost-of-living differences when looking at housing. That's a reason why I think the income limits for things like Roth contributions are a bit unfair. Paul Yeah,

That would be like just shredding $700/mo. I hope the reason you are moving to this particular location is a good one. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense on a money blog otherwise.
