I’m returning from a business trip today and paid $23 (saved $2 by paying in advance online) to check one bag.

I hate to pay, but dislike lugging bags around the airport (between flights) even more!

That’s where the thinking is wrong – train travel is part of the trip/experience. At least it is for me!

These fees are waived for international flights still.

The argument is that you where always being charged for bags and it isn’t fair to charge the people that just use carry on bags.

They are starting to crack down finally on the people trying to carry on those giant bags. I just flew Lufthansa to India and they were measuring your carry on bags and you had to have an approved carry on sticker to get on the plane.

As for the train, I just priced out a trip for 4 from Portland to Chicago I’m planning this summer, the train cost cost $250 less but takes 4 days round trip. Sleeping in 4 nights in a chair to save $250???? Not to even mention the cost of wasting 4 paid days off staring out the window at corn.

Extra baggage expenses are a real drag. I just flew to Florida for some military training and received free checked bags. If only that worked on more things…Like at the movies

i am forced to close one eye and pay up because i absolutely love flying. or just fly light, like with one or two small bags

It would be a cold day in hell before I would pay to check a bag.

I’d stick with Airtran, whom I don’t see on the list, or go with Southwest, who doesn’t charge.

Charging customers for things that were never previously charged for, to me, is the ultimate insult.
