A New Toyota Corolla For Only $9 A Day!

But if you do the math, that’s still $270 a month – for a Toyota Corolla. Now how good does that deal sound? A local Toyota dealer is blasting this ad all over the airways here (radio & TV) in an effort to trick buyers into thinking how affordable a new Toyota is. “Only $9 A Day!” sure sounds like a deal at first listen, doesn’t it? How many people will hear that ad and rush into the dealership to pick out their new car? I am betting a bunch – it’s actually a very good marketing idea, and I will give kudos to the ad department for coming up with it. I mean, if a latte at Starbucks costs $3.50 and people gladly pay it every morning, it should be an easy sell to get people into a new car for only a few bucks more!

Consumer Reports 10 Best Cars For 2009.

While you might not be considering buying a new car in this economy, plenty of people are…and there are some amazing deals to be had. From thousands off invoice, to 0% financing, to “turn-in” programs and even monthly stipends, car manufacturers are doing all they can to get you to buy a new car. But before you go shopping, you might want to check out the 2009 list of the best cars according to Consumer Reports, so you can at least check out the ones they recommend. To earn a recommendation, each car must have good test scores, good safety scores, and average or better predicted reliability based on owner surveys. Let’s take a look at the 10 best for 2009:

Hybrids-It’s Not About The Extra Cost, It’s About Making A Better Choice.

I will be upfront with you; we don’t own a hybrid car. This is mainly because of where we live, which is on a dirt road, surrounded by dirt roads, which get full of foot-deep mud and snow for 4 months out of the year. Were we still living in California, where weather changes amount to which way the single cloud is moving that day, our next car would have been a Prius, for sure. We could have bought an SUV hybrid (which is kind of any oxymoron if you ask me), but we don’t need an SUV and it would have been a waste of money. So instead we bought a Subaru Forester that gets 30MPG, which I am quite happy about. But I digress – let’s talk about hybrids.

GM CEO Steps Down At Request Of White House – I Don’t Buy It.

I cannot believe, at all, that a CEO of a company resigned because the White House asked him to do so. No way, no how. The spinsters in Washington might try to market it this way, but I don’t buy it for a second. If DC was in the business of forcing out CEO’s, why are all the corrupt bankers still redecorating their offices with bailout money? And I don’t believe that Obama all of a sudden wanted to run a car company. (Especially this one) There has got to be something else going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about, as no CEO would resign at the request of the White House. Resign because of the board? Maybe. Shareholders? Maybe. Company about to go belly-up? Maybe. Because he ran the place into the ground? Maybe. But at the request of some guys in D.C.? Nope, not buying it. Here are some snippets from an article in the NY Times talking about what happened yesterday:

How To Get Help After Your Car Warranty Has Expired.

Last year, the 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty on my brother’s Honda Civic expired. As with most Hondas, he never had a single problem with any part of the car; at least until right after his warranty ended. My old 1994 Civic went for 128,000 miles without having any major issues, so it was pretty surprising to him that something would go wrong so short into his ownership of the car. About a month after his warranty expired, a pretty expensive part broke on the car and he took it into the dealership to get fixed, thinking it was covered under the drivetrain warranty which is a little bit longer than the standard one. Unfortunately, the dealership’s service department said it wasn’t and that he was going to have to pay upwards of $300 to get it repaired. Needless to say, my brother was pretty outraged at this, as this was practically a brand-new car still and his warranty had just expired! So he left the dealership without getting the repair done and started the process of contacting Honda of North America about his problem.
