Seriously, how can Netflix offer unlimited DVD rentals AND free online streaming for $9 a month? And now, with my new Blu-Ray player, I can stream the movies and TV shows directly to my TV? For no additional money per month? I remember the days of driving to the video store, spending 45 minutes looking for the elusive “in-stock” case, giving the clerk $4 and being told to have it back the next day by midnight. Now, Netflix just charges $9 to my credit card each month and I can rent as many movies as I can watch (1 at a time, of course) AND watch any of the ones available for streaming as well. Just the other night I watched the entire first season of 30 Rock, on my TV, without renting a single DVD. Talk about cool… Video on Demand is definitely the future, as evidenced by the number of DVR’s and Netflix/Blockbuster memberships there are, and with my ability to now watch these streams on TV rather than on the computer, well, I can see where all of this is going – TV/movies when and where you want!
This is where having such amazing readers comes in handy – I need your advice! I am considering signing up for the Comcast Triple-Play package at my new apartment, which consists of internet, VOIP phone, and cable TV with some HD channels. Right now, I have a mish-mash of different providers for all three, and I am looking at A. saving some money and B. consolidating the three down to a single bill each month. However, after hearing so many horror stories about Comcast, I am a little hesitant to pull the trigger on signing up. (Although, I have had more than my fair share of problems with DirecTV, so who knows…) Here is what I currently have as a set up here at my house in New Mexico:
For those of you who don’t remember, back in November of last year I redeemed over 14,000 points from my MyPoints account for a $100 gift card to Amazon.com. Those points were just some of my balance that I had acquired over time for reading emails sent to me from MyPoints. Well, the emails are still coming and so are the points! I have almost 10,000 points in my account, and I plan on redeeming 7,500 of them for a $50.00 Amazon.com gift card. For about a minute a day, at most, of looking at a few emails, I keep getting these free gift cards once or twice a year. It’s not a bad deal if you ask me!
I always talk on here about watching your spending, staying out of debt, to stop spending on useless “stuff” that doesn’t bring real benefit to your life, etc.. But that doesn’t mean you should be a cheap bastard with your money, either.
