How We Saved Money On Our Vacation.

As you are reading this, my wife and I are away on a week long driving trip through the Grand Canyon, Sedona, AZ and Santa Fe, NM. While this was not a cheap vacation by any means, we did manage to save a lot of money by booking our hotels well in advance using such sites as Travelocity, TripAdvisor and Kayak. TripAdvisor was probably of the most help because it has reviews and recommendations from the people that have been there…from hotels to sightseeing tours to car rental services. We took our beloved Mini on this trip, but for the hotels we booked this was a lifesaver as there were a few places we looked at and considered…that is until we read reviews on TripAdvisor. Good thing we checked!

The Best And The Worst – Frequent Flyer Programs.

Very interesting little article over at CNNMoney about the best and worst frequent flier programs.  We use AA for most of our travel, if only because I have elite status from all my international flying when I had a “real” job, and it makes check in and security a breeze.  Also, since most of my miles are with them, we tend to get more bonuses and upgrades when we fly, so we might as well keep adding to that mileage pile.  We also use United quite a bit, and I still have leftover miles on Delta, Continental and USAir.  USAir we never fly, but I get miles by using my Bank of America debit card, so we have quite a few miles there.  Normally I donate miles from the airlines we don’t use every year to charity so at least someone can get some use out of them.  So what are some differences between the programs?

The New Airbus A380 Lands At LAX, I Slept In.

Would you feel comfortable flying on a plane that could hold up to 850 people?

Yesterday morning, the brand new gigantic Airbus A380 had two landings here in the US..one landing at JFK in New York with 491 people on board and one at LAX with….no one on board. Well, I hope they had pilots. A few people I knew were thinking of going down near the airport to see this behemoth come in, but I decided a few extra minutes of sleep was a little more important.
