Free Yourself From Your Cable Bill.

Oh how I wish we could do this. We tried…we really did try. I went and bought a pretty expensive (well, more than $9) antenna, hooked it up, turned it on and….nothing. Snow. Static. Nothing. Seems that my building does not get good reception. I should have known since between our current cell phones, my wife’s old cell phone company and my old Blackberry company, none of them could manage to get any kind of a signal into our house. But I am tired of paying all this money to the cable company to watch the approximately 4.7 channels we watch. Anyways, I came across this post over at Money, Matter, and More Musings titled “This $9 Gadget Might Save You From Cable Bill” and it reminded me of our adventure in going “cable-free”.Even though it works for a lot of people, it did not for us. So go check out the article if you have been thinking of ditching your cable service.

I think the cable companies need to start offering a-la carte channels. I know they don’t because each channel on their own would cost a fortune, especially the really popular ones. Seems our cable bill subsidizes all the other channels we don’t watch, just so we can receive the ones we do want. TV should be free; its all covered in ads anyway, so they should at least pay my cable bill for me!

My Thoughts On Keeping Personal Finances Personal.

After reading the post over at The Weight of Money titled “Keep Personal Finances Personal” I started thinking about what Donna said. Then I went and read through not only my last 20 posts or so, but also went through the latest posts on PFBlogs.org and PFBlogs.com to see what they looked like.

I think Donna is on to something here, in that personal finance is a “personal” issue, and a lot of people like to read real stories about real people dealing with their finances. After reading her post, I will certainly try to inject more “personal” finance issues rather than just tips on saving money and getting out of debt. I will not abandon those topics, as I think they are important, but I noticed after looking through my own blogroll that the sites I enjoy reading the most have a real person behind them, and you can see their personality in their writing. It is hard to come up with only personal info every day…I don’t think anybody is interested in seeing a list of things I spent all my money on every single day. But making sure to be personal most of the time is a good goal.

Here is to being putting the personal in personal finance in 2007!

Money Quote Friday – Freezing Cold Edition.

So it seems living in California does not exempt me from freezing my a%& off. After seeing growers losing over a HALF A BILLION dollars in citrus, I expect to see oranges going for about $11.59 a piece soon. Anyways, Happy Friday!

Somehow I never come home with more than I left my house with. Weird, huh?
